Congratulations Nellie Cottle 👏👏👏 Nellie Cottle has been chosen for the Code.org Coaches Network, a new initiative designed to train and support district and regional trainers who can prepare and support teachers in implementing Code.org’s K–8 computer science curriculum. She will be attending the training session at the ISTE Conference in San Antonio, TX June 29-July 2. The International Society for Technology in Education focuses on accelerating innovation in education through the smart use of technology in education. The organization seeks to help students, educators, education leaders (administrators), and coaches implement technology in academic settings. In addition to being the Technology Integration Specialist, computer science and STEM teacher for Peterstown Pk-8, Mrs. Cottle is also a Code.org Facilitator for professional development workshops through Code.org's Regional Partner CodeWV. Mrs. Cottle has a passion for using educational technology to personalize and enhance learning, increase engagement, meet students' needs, and prepare students for future careers. In addition, she enjoys taking on new challenges and learning new ways to improve education in Monroe County and across West Virginia. Last year, Monroe County Schools became a Code.org District. A Code.org District is a champion for expanding computer science education access and participation for all students. The Code.org Districts in WV are: Calhoun, Fayette, Monroe, Raleigh, and Roane County Schools. Code.org® is an education innovation nonprofit dedicated to the vision that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn computer science as part of their core K-12 education. Their free computer science curriculum expands access to computer science in schools, with a focus on increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. CodeWV is a partnership of West Virginia University, the West Virginia Department of Education, Code.org and Apple committed to expanding computer science education across all K-12 public schools in West Virginia. By preparing educators to teach age-appropriate curriculum to students, CodeWV aims to impact hundreds of local students year after year with access to computer science. CodeWV meets the guidelines of the West Virginia Department of Education's computer science plan, the West Virginia College and Career Readiness Standards for Technology and Computer Science, which went into effect in July 2019.

Just as spring brings a bloom of hope after long winters, parenting too can blossom with the right support. As educators and staff, you see the joys and struggles families face every day. Parent Coaching is here to help parents in our district find encouragement, tools, and renewed confidence—so they can experience the beauty in their parenting journey. Together, we can support stronger families and brighter futures.

Martin Luther King, Jr said “Life’s persistent and most urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’” Following  flooding that impacted McDowell County, the PMS student government decided that we would be blessed to be able help our neighbors.  After raising $1,300, students went on a shopping spree for items students in McDowell might benefit from.   We want to thank Jumpin’ Johnny’s popcorn, Danny and Linda Lively and the PMS faculty and staff for donations to help raise the funds.  We would also like to thank Walmart in Princeton for a gift card donation to help with the shopping, bringing our total to $1,400.   We are thankful for a giving community and students with a heart for giving and doing for others!
